U.S. Senate: Lester Crawford

The U.S. Senate by a wide margin approved Lester Crawford as permanent commissioner of FDA on July 18, 2005, by a vote of 78 to 16. Dr. Crawford had served as acting commissioner for 16 months since the Bush administration first appointed him to that role in February 2002. The final confirmation of Dr. Crawford as head of FDA should bode well for the dietary supplement industry, according to industry leaders who feel Dr. Crawford has over the years worked with industry in a positive and helpful manner to resolve dietary supplement-related issues.
